Los Banos offers visitors and residents an awful lot of things to do. While new arrivals sometimes say "There is nothing to do in this town!" the truth is actually quite the opposite. Once you get to know Los Banos you will find that there is always something going on - in fact, as Joe Sousa of the city council said at a meeting in September of 2007, some weekends you can not even make it to every event there is so much going on!

Organized Activities

The Calendar of Events in Los Banos is a great place to start looking for things to do in Los Banos . It usually is pretty full. The section that we have linked here has calendars that go many years into the future, but the current month is of course the most up to date. We put new events on the Calendar all of the time so please check back often. As planning is done and communicated to us we will update those events. We try to put everything we can on the Calendar from the DES Festa to Mother's Day in The Park, to contests, meetings, and other special events like the Centennial Celebrations and Henry Miller Wild West Weekend. Self Directed Opportunities

Shopping In Los Banos! This town offers residents and visitors a unique shopping experience. While we do have the Big-Box stores such as WalMart, KMart, Lowes, Home Depot and the like, some of the real treasures of the shopping experience can be found in the smaller shops along Pacheco Boulevard and Downtown. In particular the downtown shopping experience is one that you should not miss. We have put together a guide to shopping in Los Banos that covers most of the downtown stores. Do not neglect the rest of the city however! There are dozens of clothing stores, dry goods stores, gift shops and more scattered throughout the town.

Hunting In Los Banos! While hunting within city limits is out of the question, there is fantastic hunting within an easy 10 minute drive in most directions. We will be developing a better section on hunting Los Banos in the future, but for now please take a look at each of the Natural Areas in out Outdoor and Wildlands Recreation section. There you will find information on the Wetlands around Los Banos where duck and other bird hunting happens as well as information on some of the places where you can walk through our golden hills in search of deer, boar, and other game animals.

Camping In Los Banos! The camping in this area is unique. There are places where you can camp so close to the water that you can cast a line from your tent and fish from within your campsite. Boaters will like the fact there is camping very close to the boat launch up at the San Luis Recreational Area and Dam. People who like to camp with their RV's (Recreational Vehicles) have plenty of facilities to choose from as well. Pampering! Los Banos offers visitors at least one very nice Bed And Breakfast establishment where you can go for a little time away. Please look at our List of Inns to find it. In addition there are a number of hair and nail salons and beauty shops that cater to those who would like to avail themselves of those services.

A Plethora Of Parks! Not all outdoor activities are outside the city limits or require hiking boots. There are literally dozens of City Parks in Los Banos that offer and incredible variety of venues for picnics, children's play, and any number of other activities. Old Fashioned Soda Fountain Meals! Want a real treat? Want to travel back in time a few dozen years? We have just the place for you! Los Banos is graced to have one of the few remaining old fashioned lunch counter / soda fountains that still remain in California. Here you can get an old fashioned cherry phosphate, or a REAL ice cream shake as well as other Lunch counter fare. What a great place for lunch!

Check out the Milliken Museum! Our local heritage is important to us as evidenced by the Henry Miller Wild West Weekend Celebration. But when that annual celebration is not going on you can avail yourself of a local treasure - the Milliken Museum. At the Milliken you can see many historical artifacts including Henry Miller items, American Indian displays, and much more.
