The Los Banos Rotary Club has recently launched their official website. Located on the web at http://www.LosBanosRotaryClub.com, the site provides information not only about the goings-on at the Los Banos Rotary Club, but it also provides visitors with a partial glimpse of the history of Los Banos itself.

The Rotary club, whose motto is “Service Above Self”, is one of the many outstanding service organizations in town that help to serve and better the lives of others in Los Banos. The LB Rotary Club has been around for quite a while. According to the “About Us” section on the new website, “The Los Banos Rotary Club was organized on June 11, 1940 by a group of citizens known as the Cosmic Club.” The page goes on to say that the Los Banos Rotary Club continues to support and serve not only our local community, but regional and international Rotary Projects as well.

The new website sports a number of informational pages which include highlights of club projects, guest speakers, a photo gallery, information on club officers, “The Pipeline”, (which is the club’s bi-monthly bulletin), and links to other Rotary organization websites. There is also a “Members Section” where those who are involved in Rotary can gain access to a larger Rotary portal that has been produced by another club.

One of the highlights of the website that non-Rotarians may enjoy is the rich history section that the new website offers. Though still a work in progress, the history section is being put together using old articles having to do with the Los Banos Rotary Club that appeared decades ago in a local newspaper. These articles are still being transcribed and posted on Los Banos Rotary Club’s ‘history’ page. The historical articles, which were donated to the Rotary site effort by The Enterprise, give a wonderful peek into what it was like to live in Los Banos during the middle of the last century. Articles about speakers who talked about then-current events including World War II and the Cold War are particularly interesting and give those of us from future generations a peek into what our parents and grandparents struggled with.

The new website was created for the Los Banos Rotary Club by the owners of Our Los Banos Magazine as well as the Rotary President and others who contributed to the site.

We have also created a number of Los Banos community-oriented web-resources which include The Los Banos Soroptimist Website ( http://www.lbsoroptimist.com/), The Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region Website, ( http://sprsoroptimist.org/), as well as The Our Los Banos Magazine website ( http://www.ourlosbanos.com). Charles regularly writes articles and does photojournalism for two local newspapers as well as for OLB.

If everyone in Los Banos would just take 1 or 2 hours a month to do something to help their neighborhood or their community we could truly make Los Banos the gem of the valley.

The above is only my personal opinion and I strongly encourage readers to seek out more information from expert sources. Copyright 2010
