On February 26th, 27th, and 28th the Los Banos Arts Council hosted it's fourth annual photography exhibition at the Falasco Arts Center. The exhibit featured the photographic work of numerous local photographers who worked in both film and digital media. The photographers displayed work which included widely varied subject matter including portraiture, wedding photography, tranquil nature scenes, sports-action, still life, structure photography, and more. The styles were quite varied, from the old fashioned fine-art style black and white photos to highly post-processed digital works and everything in between - there was something for just about everybody to enjoy.

Young people persuse photography show photos
Young people peruse photos that were displayed at the fourth annual photo show at the Falasco Arts Center on Saturday.

There was no admission fee for the show which appeared to be pretty well attended. When we were there on Saturday we saw a families and several individuals who came to peruse and enjoy the show along with other photographers and of course the show staff.

This year's photography show was apparently dedicated to honoring Ted Falasco. Near the entrance to the show, a sign was posted above his portrait which read in part; "Ted Falasco - In memory of Mr. Ted Falasco, The Fourth Annual Photo Exhibition is honoring him, Ted was instrumental in preserving this building as well as being a major contributor in creating the art center. The photo was taken by his loving wife, Jan. She has donated this picture to the Arts Council, where it will be permanently displayed."

For years, the Los Banos Arts Council has utilized this wonderful building (which was formerly a Catholic Church) to host numerous shows and events. The building which is located at 1105 Fifth Street. has been used to host everything from concerts to children's plays, to quilt shows and much more.

The very active Los Banos Arts Council is currently putting together a new website which is located at http://losbanosartscouncil.com/ on the World Wide Web. According to the website, upcoming events scheduled for the near future include; The Los Banos Arts Council's dinner and concert which will be held on Sunday, March 7th, The Missoula Children's Theater listed for March 27th, and the Swing Into Spring Dance which is scheduled for April 10th.

If everyone in Los Banos would just take 1 or 2 hours a month to do something to help their neighborhood or their community we could truly make Los Banos the gem of the valley.

The above is only my personal opinion and I strongly encourage readers to seek out more information from expert sources. Copyright 2010
