Diana Stork, the artistic director of last night’s program, had a vision 19 years ago to bring different genres of harp music together. Her idea was to expose the public to the myriad of harp styles and to bring people together all over the world with a love for music. With her acclaimed World Festival of Harps, she has accomplished something that is apparently quite rare – a concert of different types and blends of harp music designed to show concert attendees that harp music is far from “boring”. Usually when you hear of a harp concert it involves only one type of style, whether that is Celtic, classical or other “typical” and traditional styles. Diana has crafted, with the help of the other performing artists, an auditory banquet that took the audience on an imaginary journey to the misty hills of Ireland, on tothe stone walled halls of castles in medieval England, to the untamed wilds of Alaska, back in time to ancient and Imperial China and then on to a classy, modern American bar full of toe tapping jazz and crackling with energy.
