A large male Tule elk with a wonderful rack of antlers stands above a female bedded down in the grass at the Elk enclosure at the San Luis NWR close to Los Banos Ca. These magnificent creatures are protected species but you may view them after sunrise and before sunset. Many times they are close enough to see from your car.
