Eagle Field Ca. - An Educational Diamond In The Rough and filming location

Not too far from Los Banos is a neat old airfield which was used for training pilots in the US Army Air Corps is World War II. Known as Eagle Field this historic piece of property is now in private hands.

In October of 2007 Eagle Field became a piece of movie making history when Crews with Paramount Pictures converged on Eagle Field to film "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," We are told Sean Conery and Harrison Ford were on location. Making Eagle Field into a movie set for the next in the Raiders of The Lost Ark series must have been a natural choice. When searching for old World War II locations in California this just had to have popped out!

Let me tell you more about our trip to Eagle Field and then show you some pictures of where the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull was filmed. Please do not lose sight of the fact that despite Steve Speilberg and George Lucas making this place into a great movie set that Eagle Field near Los Banos Ca is a rich piece of aviation history that was left relatively untouched since the days of World War 2.

Only a short drive from Los Banos California, Eagle Field is a piece of 1940s history which has not been taken over by either bulldozers carving roads for housing tracts nor by commercial entities trying to make a buck. Eagle Field is a place where if you are lucky enough to go, you can get a real feel for what air corp training bases must have looked like back during World War II.

Eagle field has a nice dinner dance every year and this is how they raise the funds to keep the museum open and keep the buildings and the field itself in shape.

We had the opportunity to spend a day walking around Eagle Field in an unrestricted manner and were able to go through the buildings and the museum at will. What follows are some photographs of Eagle Field and some of the many treasures it contains'.

Please contact the owner of Eagle Field before you make the trip because they do not apparently keep regular hours.

Eagle Field is worth preserving. We hope that you will consider attending their fundraisers. In addition, we believe that the local schools and even non local schools should consider having field trips to Eagle Field. Because it is not all "slicked up" you really CAN get the feeling of how it may have been to call this place home back in the 1940s.

In addition to the photos below there are a BUNCH more about the Eagle Field Fly In and Dinner Dance posted in a story that was posted on the forums here:

Please enjoy the photographs below as well.

It is going to be very rewarding to see one of our local treasures on the big screen when the Spielburg and Lucas partnership brings the next Raiders of The Lost Ark movie to the big screen. As soon as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hits our theater you can be sure that the local Los Banos / Dos Palos audiences will be trying to spot our own Eagle Field turned into a Peruvian Airport where Harrison Ford is likely to thwart yet another evil. But lets not forget that the men that trained at Eagle Field in California really DID thwart a greater evil - the axis powers of the 1940s. And that was not just movie making magic.
