| Los Banos California is served by several
media types that cover the news in town. If you are looking for printed newspaper
or a video feed direct from the source, you can find it here. From our local Los
Banos Newspapers to the TV stations located a few miles away, Los Banos gets pretty
decent coverage. OurLosBanos.com itself is not
a news outlet and we have not got ANY aspirations whatsoever to ever become one,
but we are very happy to point you to places that you can find news online and
in other forms. What follows is a listing of some
of the Los Banos News Outlets we know about and a little editorial about each
of them. The comments are of course just our personal opinions and you should
visit or purchase each and make up your own mind. Los
Banos Newspapers Los Banos is served by three
newspapers. The Los Banos Enterprise, Tony Dutra's "The Paper",
and a Spanish language paper called Vida en El Vale. The
Los Banos Enterprise Newspaper The
first News resource on any list of Los Banos news organizations must be the Los
Banos Enterprise. This local Newspaper is printed twice per week on Tuesdays
and Fridays and their subscription prices are quite reasonable in our opinion. The
Enterprise is was founded in 1891 and is owned by a much larger company, the national
McClatchy Newspaper organization. It is a full service newspaper with everything
from news to opinions, to classifieds, to special coverage sections. In particular
we really enjoy the local news stories they publish and we never miss the columns
by Mr. John Spevak and Ms. Diane Ingram. The Los
Banos Enterprise often publishes news about new businesses opening up in Los Banos
and the scuttlebutt surrounding those that may be coming. We really enjoy this
part of their coverage and it is always great to first learn about the newest
members of our business community on the pages of the Enterprise. As
noted above the main strength of the Enterprise in our opinion is the local Los
Banos news that they provide. We have met several of their reporters and rarely
ever skip over a story with a byline by one of our three favorites. Their reporting
staff is quite active and it is a rare occurrence to not see them at any local
event. The Los Baņos Enterprise building
is at 1253 W. I Street and can be reached by phone at: 209-826-3831 for subscriptions,
advertising and other information. Besides reading
the Enterprise in print, you can also find the Los Banos Enterprise newspaper
online. Click Here for a link
to the Enterprise. You can also find The Los Banos
Enterprise for sale in local vending boxes all over town.
The
Paper - Local Los Banos Newspaper "The
Paper" which is published by Tony Dutra's TFD Enterprises is a very small
local newspaper that is published once per week on Fridays. This is a VERY local-centric
newspaper and has a very homey feel to it. "The
Paper" prides itself on being a locally owned and operated resource and
while they do not publish a tremendous volume of news, they are very close to
the community and publish a great deal of information on the people and organizations
around town. I would stop short of calling it a 'gossip paper' but it certainly
has a very down to earth and familial flair. "The
Paper" features writing from several different people, many of whom are
just common folks that submit their stories to "The Paper" for inclusion.
The staff also put in their own editorial columns and there are regular and guest
columnists, but you can never be quite sure what you will find when you pick up
"The Paper". "The Paper"
has been kind enough to publish a little piece for us each week called the OurLosBanos
Calendar Corner which provides their readers with a printed rundown of many of
the things you can find on that weeks OurLosBanos.com Calendar
of Events. You can find out a little more
about "The Paper"
by clicking here. You can get The Paper at their 830 "I" street HQ or at Fantasia
Records & Tapes or at Los Banos Drugs. You may also subscribe to the paper by
simply contacting TFD Enterprises at 209-827-0364 http://dutraspaper.com/ Besides
reading THE PAPER in print, you can also find THE PAPER newspaper online. Click
Here for a link to the Paper.
Vida
en El Vale. The Spanish
Language newspaper (which has some articles in English) is Vida en El Vale. It
is more of a Central valley Newspaper as near as I can tell. It too is owned by
the national McClatchey Newspapers Inc. Vida En
El Vale can be reached at 559-441-6781 Click
here for a link to them.
Out
of area newspapers There is also
a local distributor for the San Francisco Chronnicle at 20690 West

Los
Banos Electronic News Media Los Banos does
not have any solely news related television or radio stations that are based in
town. There are plenty of AM Radio and FM Radio stations that can be heard in
Los Banos. While Los Banos does not have a dedicated
news radio station within our borders residents do use
KYOS Newstalk 1480 out of Merced. KYOS sometimes covers Los Banos Stories.
Los Banos does however have a local cable TV
channel that presents lots of community oriented news-like content. We are also
working to get a public access cable channel set up and while that will not have
breaking hard news per say it will likely have plenty of programming about such
things. TV 96 of Los Banos TV
96 offers local programming such as feeds of the city council, school board meetings
and whatnot. This would be considered somewhat of a "raw feed" as even
the taped repeats are done pretty much in their entirety and there is no editorialization
that I have ever noticed. Therefore TV 96 is not like a normal 'news channel'
per se, but if you are interested in the government machinations of Los Banos
this is a good place to park yourself a few hours per week. If
you do not have cable there is also an internet
feed of the TV96 programming.
Los
Banos is also in range of TV Stations 30, 47, 24, 26 which present news from time
to time and sometimes cover Los Banos. KVPT 18 - Valley Public Television may
also from time to time have items of local interest that are 'newsy'. |
