Little Otter's Science

I've recieved a request from Rebecca on one of the boards I frequent for a younger kid's version of Otter's Elementary Science, so here it is! This curriculum is designed for preschool through about 1st grade or for older children (special needs?) that would benefit from books that are more "gentle" and are scheduled at a slower pace. They also would make good "readers" for the older set who isn't looking for a challenge but needs something at a lower level to help retain things, or just for fun. You could also substitute some of these books for a younger student who is using Otter's Elementary Science: The Human Body. Just choose from the two programs to get the best fit.

I have designed this program to follow along with Otter's Science except for a few topics that weren't appropriate for younger students. The pace is pretty gentle. While most of the activities have a scheduled day, I didn't schedule the read aloud books' pages. They are, for the most part, simple books (in my opinion) that can easily be read in one sitting or you can spread them out over the week - it's your choice. If you have an older child who is doing our other program, feel free to include a younger sibling in any appropriate activities.

I am not, at this time, creating a printable document for this study. Since I won't be using it for Otter (except for some reader suggestions), I just can't justify the time. If anyone would like to make one up and "donate" it to the site, feel free. I will be sure to credit you.

Like every other thing we design curriculum wise, this is a pick and choose program. If you have books on hand that cover the same topics or you found something you like better, feel free to use it instead! Don't worry about doing things exactly as they are in the schedule.

Also, the last few weeks are pretty slow (not much material). This will give you time to make up other weeks you had to skip due to illness, etc. or give you time to just skip science a week here or there, etc.
