A Book in Time
This site lists lots of books for different historical periods. They are "selling" you the books through Amazon links, but the lists are worth looking at.

An Island Story
"A child's history of England from earliest legendary times delightfully retold. Beginning with the stories of Albion and Brutus, it relates all the interesting legends and hero tales in which the history of England abounds through the end of the reign of Queen Victoria. Ages 9-12 653 pages". This is a free online text!!

Pick a time period and then dress up characters paper-doll style (drag and drop the clothing or scenery). You can also print out some of the pages to cut and paste for your history notebooks. Links on the page go to OTHER sites that feature these items so monitor your children's surfing.

Family Education History Printables
Lots of history printables on various subjects. There's some good stuff here!

Heraldry Game
Play this online game (it's not technical, just read and click) to learn more about heraldry.

Historical Fiction for Children
Lists of books (with pictures of their covers) based on countries and time periods.

HistoryTeacher.net
Don't let the front page intimidate you. This site is stuffed full of AP history helps like questions, interactive practice quizzes, excellent links, PowerPoints, downloads, worksheets and more. Choose the history subject at the top of the page to get down to business. This is one of the BEST AP history resources we have come across.

Jim Cornish's Lesson Plans
The student activity sheets make this a worthwhile stop. We have used some of the sheets for our ancient history lessons and more. They are nice to pop in a notebook.

Family Pass Movies to Supplement History
A list of movies that go with different historical time periods. We recommend that you look into the accuracy of each movie you decide to view so that you can discuss fiction that might be portrayed as fact.

Literature to Supplement History
An excellent list of books for different time periods. We have used this list many times!

Mr. Donn's Pages
This is a huge history resource. You unfortunately have to slog through it to find the "goodies". There is a lot of information, stories, some handouts, and much more (including links to PowerPoints).

Museum of Costume Dress-up Game
Choose a year and then choose items to dress up the character. Try to choose the correct items for the time period.

School History
This U.K. site has some excellent illustrated worksheets and PowerPoints. There are over 1400 pages of resources available! Go to the downloads link or explore other offerings on the site.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII Paperdolls
Free, beautiful paperdolls that will help make your Henry VIII study more memorable.

The Story of Mankind
A free online classic history text (written for children) that is excellent for older elementary+ students. Be aware that is does mention "evolution" and is somewhat "Eurocentric"...still it's a great resource.

This Country of Ours
A free online classic text of American history written for children.

The Internet changes daily so you never know if a site that is here today might be "gone" tomorrow. We suggest you save materials you want to use in the future to your hard drive (if it doesn't interfere with the copyright). Also, we can't predict what might change on a site or what advertising might be present. Surf at your own risk!
Please report any bad links to me (or inappropriate materials and / or advertising)!

P.S. Some of the links have stuff that is good, fun, informative, etc. for mom too, not just the kids!
