January 1 -The Community Prayer Group is a non denominational group of people of faith from many different congregations who meet on the first Thursday of each month at 1PM. The items to be discussed include: Goals, Objectives, Policies, Issues and the placement of an Emergency Homeless Shelter. Public participation is requested. Refreshments will be provided. January 8 - Military Family Suppport Group meets at the Vagabond Inn at 7 p.m.

January 10 - Electronic Waste Collection Event:

Saturday January 10, 2009 from 10 - 3 we will be having a special Electronic Waste Collection Event. This event is being worked by the Los Banos High School Enviornmental Club. This is their big fundraiser for the year.

Please if you have a Computer, Computer Monitor, or Television that is merely collecting dust, you can drop it off tomorrow all day. The kids will be here between the hours of 10-3, if you wish for them to receive credit for the item you bring please mention it to our staff.

We also accept, dvd and vcr players, game systems, printers, copiers, fax machines, mircrowaves, washers, dryers,refridgerators, freezers, and stoves. We can accept items such as a futon frame also, but only the frame no furniture with fabric only metal can be accepted.

With the digital converstion beginning in Februrary many of us will be updating our outdated televisions. We can accept them free of charge anytime between the hours of 9-5 Monday -Saturday.

Certificates of destruction can be provided as well to ensure the safety of any information you may have on your computer.

January 13 - Parent Talk a support group for parents of children with every kind of disability meets every second Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 250 West Adams from 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m. Child Care is provided. January 13 - Challenged Support Group A parent support group offered through Challenged Family Resource Center. The group meets at St. John's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. every second Tuesday of the Month. All parents with a child or children with a disability are invited to attend. January 15 - Golden Agers Enchilada Dinner will be held at the exhibits building at the Fairgrounds. No-host-cocktails will begin at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.00 for members and $ 9.00 for non-members. Dinner trays are $6.00 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Miller & Lux offics prior to the dinner or that night.

Come and help to brainstorm creative ideas to help save jobs in our city as well as make it through the budget mess as a tighter knit community as a whole. Heart Saver CPR Class at Memorial Hospital. Classes are $10 and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Earn a 2 year CPR card.

Fitness for active seniors class - This free class taught by John Spevak will be held at the Los Banos Merced College Campus. Classes start Sept. 3 and will occur every Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:30 -10 a.m. Classes will be held in room B-136.

Bethany Community Church has started a Christian youth book club. The club meets each Saturday at 4 p.m. at 401 West L St. The book club accepts members ages 13-18. The group is directed by Lori Kyle. For more information about the club or on how to join you can call Elvira Grimes at 489-4969.

Alcoholics Anonymous Serenity at Noon Group meets Mondays through Fridays in the recreation hall at 903 Pacheco Blvd. from noon to 1 p.m.
They also meet on Wednesday and Saturday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m.

Narcotics Anonymous meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Greyhound Bus Depot, 820 G St.

Victory Outreach 12-Step Substance abuse group meets every Monday 7:30 p.m. at 1231 Fourth St. in the rear building.
