- The CALFED program recently went through an extensive review by the governor
and the legislature. Parts of it are being dismantled, parts are being reorganized.
It's most effective program was the watershed program, and the Resources Secretary
appointed a commitee to investigate creating a watershed program for the state
of California. The committee consists of two representatives from each of 10 regions
of the state plus 4 "at large" members. As the appointees to facilitate the gathering
of input from the San Joaquin valley region, Teri Murrison and I have scheduled
a series of public forums to gather input on what such a watershed program should
look like, and what needs could such a program fill on the ground for local resource
users and managers. One of four forums in the San Joaquin Valley is scheduled
Friday, February 15, 2008 at the College Green Building, 1815 Scripps Drive, Los
Banos. Time of the forum will be 10am to 12 noon. Who should attend is anyone
who is interested in water issues in California, including water quality, water
conservation, water supply, and water conveyance. This includes: farmers, irrigation
districts, and anyone with water rights or who pays to use water in their businesses
or residences. Any natural resource managers or persons with interests in wildlife
and habitat needs. Anyone who uses water recreaationally, including people who
swim, fish, canoe, kayak, or boat. The forum is open to the public and anyone
can attend. There is no cost, and light refreshments will be provided.

Open House

LOS BANOS - City residents
will have the opportunity to "view" the new Community Center during
an open house set for Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Cesar Chavez Community
Room at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center, 1620 San Luis St.
The City of Los Banos Public Works Department is hosting the event, which will
include exhibits, floor plans and three-dimensional imaging of the downtown project.
Representatives from the Public Works Department, as well as the project architect,
Beverly Prior Architects, will be on hand to share information and answer questions.
Phase 1 of the Community Center, which is targeted for completion in June 2010,
will be located at 645 7th Street. It will be a multi-use facility, serving various
needs in the community.
"This open house will provide the opportunity
for residents to see and hear first-hand the latest developments about the new
Community Center," said Dwayne Chisam, Public Works Director. "We're
excited that the project is at this stage where we can actually present it in
such a way that citizens get a real feel for the structure."
The open
house will begin with a 30-minute "wandering" period where residents
can see various exhibits about the project. A formal presentation by the architects
will include a schematic design of the Community Center, along with site plans
and floor plans for the two construction phases, three-dimensional massing images,
and building elevations. A question-and-answer period will follow, and residents
are welcome to join informal discussion groups after the scheduled program.
