Psalms -- 47

{1} O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
{2} For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
{3} He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.
{4} He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
{5} God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
{6} Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
{7} For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
{8} God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
{9} The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.

Psalms -- 48

{1} Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
{2} Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
{3} God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
{4} For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
{5} They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.
{6} Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
{7} Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.
{8} As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.
{9} We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
{10} According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
{11} Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
{12} Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.
{13} Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.
{14} For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Psalms -- 49

{1} Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
{2} Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
{3} My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
{4} I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
{5} Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
{6} They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
{7} None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
{8} (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
{9} That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
{10} For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
{11} Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
{12} Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
{13} This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
{14} Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
{15} But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
{16} Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
{17} For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
{18} Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
{19} He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
{20} Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

Acts -- 24

{1} And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
{2} And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
{3} We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
{4} Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
{5} For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
{6} Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
{7} But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
{8} Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
{9} And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
{10} Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
{11} Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
{12} And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
{13} Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
{14} But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
{15} And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
{16} And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
{17} Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
{18} Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
{19} Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
{20} Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
{21} Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
{22} And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
{23} And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
{24} And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
{25} And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
{26} He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
{27} But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
