The Bible In One Year Bible Reading For Day Number - 089 Judges
-- 1{1} Now after
the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD,
saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against
them? {2} And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered
the land into his hand. {3} And Judah said unto Simeon his brother,
Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise
will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him. {4} And Judah
went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand:
and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men. {5} And they found
Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites
and the Perizzites. {6} But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after
him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. {7}
And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their
great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God
hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died. {8}
Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and
smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire. {9}
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites,
that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley. {10}
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron
before was Kirjath-arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai. {11}
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir
before was Kirjath-sepher: {12} And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher,
and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. {13}
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him
Achsah his daughter to wife. {14} And it came to pass, when she came
to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from
off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou? {15} And she
said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me
also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
{16} And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out
of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah,
which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
{17} And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites
that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was
called Hormah. {18} Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and
Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof. {19}
And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain;
but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots
of iron. {20} And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he
expelled thence the three sons of Anak. {21} And the children of Benjamin
did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell
with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day. {22} And
the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.
{23} And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the
city before was Luz.) {24} And the spies saw a man come forth out of
the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the
city, and we will shew thee mercy. {25} And when he shewed them the
entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they
let go the man and all his family. {26} And the man went into the land
of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the
name thereof unto this day. {27} Neither did Manasseh drive out the
inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants
of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants
of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. {28}
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute,
and did not utterly drive them out. {29} Neither did Ephraim drive
out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among
them. {30} Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron,
nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became
tributaries. {31} Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho,
nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor
of Aphik, nor of Rehob: {32} But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites,
the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out. {33}
Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants
of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land:
nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries
unto them. {34} And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the
mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley: {35}
But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the
hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. {36}
And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock,
and upward. Judges
-- 2{1} And an
angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up
out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers;
and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. {2} And ye shall
make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars:
but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? {3} Wherefore
I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns
in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. {4} And it
came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children
of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. {5} And
they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the
LORD. {6} And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel
went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. {7} And the
people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders
that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did
for Israel. {8} And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD,
died, being an hundred and ten years old. {9} And they buried him in
the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the
north side of the hill Gaash. {10} And also all that generation were
gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which
knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. {11}
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
{12} And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them
out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that
were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to
anger. {13} And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
{14} And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered
them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands
of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their
enemies. {15} Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was
against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them:
and they were greatly distressed. {16} Nevertheless the LORD raised
up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.
{17} And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a
whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly
out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the
LORD; but they did not so. {18} And when the LORD raised them up judges,
then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their
enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings
by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them. {19} And it came
to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves
more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down
unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
{20} And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because
that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers,
and have not hearkened unto my voice; {21} I also will not henceforth
drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:
{22} That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way
of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. {23}
Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither
delivered he them into the hand of Joshua. Luke
-- 8{1}
And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village,
preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were
with him, {2} And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits
and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, {3}
And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which
ministered unto him of their substance. {4} And when much people were
gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
{5} A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the
way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. {6}
And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away,
because it lacked moisture. {7} And some fell among thorns; and the
thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. {8} And other fell on good
ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these
things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. {9} And
his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? {10} And
he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but
to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might
not understand. {11} Now the parable is this: The seed is the word
of God. {12} Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh
the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe
and be saved. {13} They on the rock are they, which, when they hear,
receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe,
and in time of temptation fall away. {14} And that which fell among
thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares
and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. {15}
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having
heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. {16}
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it
under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see
the light. {17} For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest;
neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. {18}
Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and
whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
{19} Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at
him for the press. {20} And it was told him by certain which said,
Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. {21}
And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which
hear the word of God, and do it. {22} Now it came to pass on a certain
day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us
go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. {23}
But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the
lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. {24} And
they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose,
and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was
a calm. {25} And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being
afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth
even the winds and water, and they obey him. {26} And they arrived
at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. {27}
And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which
had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in
the tombs. {28} When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before
him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son
of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. {29} (For he had
commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught
him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands,
and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) {30} And Jesus asked
him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered
into him. {31} And they besought him that he would not command them
to go out into the deep. {32} And there was there an herd of many swine
feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter
into them. And he suffered them. {33} Then went the devils out of the
man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place
into the lake, and were choked. {34} When they that fed them saw what
was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
{35} Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found
the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed,
and in his right mind: and they were afraid. {36} They also which saw
it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
{37} Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about
besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he
went up into the ship, and returned back again. {38} Now the man out
of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus
sent him away, saying, {39} Return to thine own house, and shew how
great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout
the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him. {40} And it
came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for
they were all waiting for him. {41} And, behold, there came a man named
Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet,
and besought him that he would come into his house: {42} For he had
one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went
the people thronged him. {43} And a woman having an issue of blood
twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be
healed of any, {44} Came behind him, and touched the border of his
garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. {45} And Jesus
said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said,
Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched
me? {46} And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that
virtue is gone out of me. {47} And when the woman saw that she was
not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him
before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed
immediately. {48} And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort:
thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. {49} While he yet spake,
there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter
is dead; trouble not the Master. {50} But when Jesus heard it, he answered
him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. {51}
And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and
James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. {52}
And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
{53} And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. {54}
And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
{55} And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded
to give her meat. {56} And her parents were astonished: but he charged
them that they should tell no man what was done.
